Like the SDD, Insets provide a combination of maps and radar targets. Multiple Inset window can be opened, either manually by pressing the INSET button on the main menu bar, or automatically by PRESET selections.
Each Inset can have its own magnification/zoom and be centred on a different position; however the radar range is the same as the main SDD window and the detail of what is shown in the inset will be the same as if that map detail was shown in the SDD. Map settings, themes, labels, are the same for all insets as in the SDD.
The crucial feature is that IVAC2 maps are designed to have different appearances at different magnifications, eg. an area containing a detailed layout of an airport, such as might be designed for use on a surface monitoring radar (SMR) would be visible when zoomed-in , but be invisible when zoomed-out.
Inset windows may be opened and left open for as long as required; they “float” independently of the main SDD window and may be dragged to a separate screen/display. They can also be minimised (to a line) by clicking the line symbol in the top-right corner, allowing windows to be quickly accessible later without taking up space on the screen when not required.
